It’s safe to say that motorcycles have a come a long way since their invention in Germany, at the end of the 19th century. Those early contraptions were simple, made with wood, with a gasoline powered internal combustion engine somehow attached to it. However, it got the job done. In other words, a person could ride on it relatively safely from point A to point B. Nowadays, motorcycles have come a long way, and they rival sports cars in sophistication and speed. The interesting thing about motorcycles of any make is that they have always been fun to ride. Whether you ride it around the corner to the grocery store, or go for a cross country cruise with friends, it is difficult to beat the thrill of a motorcycle ride, with any other land based vehicle.

In fact, that would have to be the single biggest reason why people enjoy riding a motorcycle. The thrill and freedom a motorcycle can give, perhaps rivals that of a sail boat or aircraft. However, in its early days, thrill of the ride is not exactly what the inventors had in mind when they created the first motorcycle. It was seen as an affordable alternative to the automobile. Cars in those days, as nowadays, were not exactly cheap. This includes, both the upkeep as well as the fuel required to run them. This was the major reason why the first motorcycles were created. A person or two could now take care of their basic transportation needs at a fraction of the cost.

It is interesting to see that in the 21st century, matters have come a full circle. With high prices of gas and cars, but especially gasoline, more and more people are turning to motorized two wheelers in order to meet their transportation needs. This is especially true with urban youngsters. Commuting around town is much easier on a small motorcycle compared to a large gas guzzling car. It goes without saying that whenever a motorcycle is ridden, proper safety precautions need to be taken, such as wearing helmets. The flip side to all the fun and freedom is that riding a motorcycle requires extreme alertness and care, more so than what is required when driving a car.
